World AIDS Day

11/29/2011

World AIDS Day is December 1st, this Thursday. Join other GLAM folks and many others for Vermont CARES' candlelight vigil in front of the City Hall at 6p. Afterwards, there will be a reception, reflection and a debut of the "Protraits Project" at 6:30p at Vermont CARES, located at 187 St. Paul Street in Burlington.

What is World AIDS Day and Why Is It Important?

From WorldAIDSDay.org: [World AIDS Day] is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died... Today, many scientific advances have been made in HIV treatment, there are laws to protect people living with HIV and we understand so much more about the condition. But despite this, people do not know the facts about how to protect themselves and others from HIV, and stigma and discrimination remain a reality for many people living with HIV. World AIDS Day is important as it reminds the public and Government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.

In just TWO DAYS we'll be out at First Friday, the largest recurring gay night in VT. This month's FF celebrates the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Be sure to bedazzle some BDUs, roll out the camo, and strap into those sassy combat boots! There'll be lots of service members there to celebrate being able to serve openly. So come out and help us salute our members!

Also, we have a new volunteer named Corrine who will be available for drop-in testing on Wednesdays from 10a-1p. This means our drop-in testing times are:
Tues 11a-6p
Wed 10a-1p
Thurs 11a-6p
You can also make an appointment Monday through Friday- we can even often accommodate appointments before or after our regular hours!

Core Group Time Change and Next Bar Blast Idea

09/15/2011

Core Group is where the magic happens- where guys get together, chat, nom on snacks, and think up all the fun events we want to see happen around here. It's your group- you have the say, you make things happen. We made a poll and we heard you: Wednesdays can be tough.
SO at our last meeting, we thought of moving our Core Group meetings to Sundays at 6pm. What do you think? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, here on our blog, email or call 860-7812 -- We want to hear from you!

Bar Blasts are when a group of us guys hit the bar hard, dance it up, and spread the word about GLAM- all in eye-catching, fun themed costumes. We had a BLAST last time with the cowboy theme... what should we do for the next one? Comment below, email or Facebook it!
Some thoughts were: angels and demons, lumberjacks, nerds, glam rock, pirates v. ninjas...

This Saturday is the Fire Truck Pull to benefit Outright Vermont, Vermont's queer youth center and advocacy organization. We'll be one of several teams pulling a fire truck (yes, an actual fire truck) down Church Street. Come at noon to cheer us on! We're still short of our $1,500 goal- but getting closer!- so if you can, visit our First Giving page and donate generously to help those who do so much with and for LGBTQ youth.

Hey guys-
Tonight at 7pm, come to RU12? in Winooski and meet with other guys who like guys and tell us what you'd like to see happen for events in Burlington. Fall snacks and sass all served up.
Then at 8 PM we'll be showing gay cult classic "Hedwig and the Angry Inch", a music-infused tale of a transsexual punk rock girl from East Berlin. She tours the US with her rock band as she tells her life story and follows the ex-boyfriend/bandmate who stole her songs. Snacks and beverages provided!

Upcoming happenings

Hey guys! Here are some of the fun, FREE events we have coming up:

Every Wednesday at 7pm are Core Group meetings, where we get together, chat, eat snacks and think about events coming up and what we want to see happen in the area.

Friday the 19th we're going to the Drive-Ins in Colchester. We'll meet here at RU12? and head up so everyone can get in for free. We'll have at least two trucks with air mattresses, chairs, tons of snacks, and a slew of other queer guys.

Friday the 26th at 6:30pm is Kink and Kabobs. This is an open discussion of any and all things kink. Some possible topics might include what kink is, how to bring kink into a currently vanilla relationship, how to play safe, equipment and toys, personal experiences and advice, or how to find other kinky folks. Veggie kabobs will be grilled up and served. This is free and open to queer (gay, lesbian, bi, pan, questioning, etc) and/or trans people of any gender.

On Tuesday the 30th we're headed to the Champlain Valley Fair! Come enjoy the once-a-year excitement of fun rides, games, rollar coasters, the maple house, and cows and sheep! We'll meet at RU12? at 6PM and head over to the fairgrounds together! Free admission and ride tickets to all who RSVP to Jean-Denis (AKA: Wrangler) or Mike at 860-RU12 email: GLAM@ru12.org.
